The candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs. Nkemdirim Nwogu Iheasimuo, has won the August 16 bye-election for Aba South State Constituency, Abia State.
According to the result of the poll announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Iheasimuo polled 1,655 votes to defeat her closest rival, Elder Smart Ebere of the All Progressive Congress, who garnered 313 votes, while Chief Chimobi Apara of the All Progressive Grand Alliance came third with 252 votes.
She is the widow of the former occupant of the seat, late Hon. Nwogu Iheasimuo, who died in March this year after a protracted mysterious illness.
Governor Theodore Orji has congratulated her on her victory which he described as “well-deserved and victory for democracy”.
