An Upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a 28-year-old security guard, Amos Livinus, to one month in prison for stealing 250 litres of diesel.
Livinus, who resides in Mega Born Estate, Galadimawa, Abuja was charged with theft.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Livinus after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N2,000 fine and warned him against stealing and ill behaviours.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Salisu Mohammed, had told the court that Ramchandra Reddy, of Michael Jackson Street, Gwarimpa, Abuja, lodged the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, Abuja, on June 1.
Mohammed said Livinus trespassed into Reddy’s house and stole 250 litres of diesel, valued at N38,750.
He said the convict was arrested by some security guards while trying to flee with the product.
The prosecutor said the convict confessed committing the crime during investigation, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
