The first academy of the ongoing MTN Football Scholar Season 4 camp has opened at the Testim Balogun Stadium, Lagos with 42 youngsters who were selected across the country in the auditions.
This year’s edition of MTN Football Scholar commenced in April with auditions in six cities.
From the academy, the selected student-footballers will proceed to the second academy after undergoing special football training under the supervision of invited foreign and local coaches. They will also have intensive classes in preparation for Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
The MTN Football Scholar initiative is a youth soccer camp focusing equally on football and academics. It provides a platform for Nigeria’s best student athletes/soccer players that are academically sound, to earn scholarships to America universities.
Meanwhile, the finalists from the Season 3 of the initiative will be hosted to a dinner later in the month before leaving for their sessions at designated American universities.
Ahamad Raji, a 16-year-old student of Kings College, Lagos, will be travelling to the US to study at Masters Academy, Miami. He said there is nothing comparable to the opportunity MTN has provided him through the football scholarship.
