The Season 4 of the Airtel Rising Stars has commenced with the launching of the programmes in Lagos on Wednesday. The registration will close on June 27.
The programme, aimed at the development of U-17 players from the grassroots, will feature ex-internationals Peter Rufai, Garba Lawal, Mutiu Adepoju, Ann Chiejine and Chioma Ajunwa as technical advisors.
Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, said the programme is the company’s contribution to sports development and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
“Airtel wants to be an integral part of local communities and our association with football has strong elements of creating positive change and engagement. ARS is our contribution to building and sustaining a rich pool of football talents for the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons,” Ogunsanya said.
“It is on record that the Airtel Rising Stars football programme has produced exceptional talents some of whom are former Golden Eaglets captain Musa Mohammed Shehu, (ARS 2011); Zahradden Bello (ARS 2012); Al-Hassan Ibrahim Abdullahi (ARS 2011); Muri Lawal of Sunshine Stars (ARS 2011) and Falconets player Josephine Mathias who plays for Pelican Stars of Calabar (ARS 2011).”
