Wike didn’t betray Amaechi, says minister’s loyalists

THE Grassroots Development Initiative; a socio-political group sponsored by the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the allegation by the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, that their minister betrayed him.

Amaechi had during an event accused Wike of betraying him despite the minister swearing with his (Wike) children that he would not let him (Amaechi) down.

The governor stated that Wike had to swear with the name of his children in order to convince him (Amaechi) to send his name to President Goodluck Jonathan for a ministerial position.

But the GDI Secretary General, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, described the allegation by the governor as a blatant lie, adding that Amaechi has desecrated Ikwerreland by his utterance.

Nwanosike, who spoke in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressed the need for the governor to appease the land.

According to the GDI secretary general, “He (Amaechi) knows what he has been doing and unless he seeks the face of God and asks for forgiveness, he will continue to wobble.”

Nwanosike wondered why Amaechi would allow Wike to swear to an oath if he (Amaechi) had no ulterior motive against President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “Amaechi was contemplating a problem with President Jonathan from the beginning and he should be ashamed of himself because as a Knight of the Catholic Church, he is giving people oath to swear in the name of their children even against the injunctions of the Bible, which forbids oath taking of any kind.

“Amaechi should therefore tell Nigerians the kind of oath they swore to or did they also swear by their children? If Wike didn’t betray him in 2007 when there was a slim chance of success, why would Wike betray Amaechi as a minister?”
