A 40-year-old auto mechanic, Yakub Oyafemi, who allegedly stabbed a woman with a broken bottle on the head, was on Friday charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.
The accused, who resides at Ajegunle area of Apapa, is facing a charge of assault.
The prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 14.
Ojaokomo alleged that the accused unlawfully assaulted one Victoria Egere by stabbing her with a broken bottle on the head.
The offence, he noted, contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 171 stipulates three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm.
But the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned to June 30 for trial.
