The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board has constituted a special awareness committee to educate residents on the importance of enrollment of children in schools.
The Chairman of the board, Alhaji Murtala Jangebe, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Gusau.
Jangebe said Zamfara was among the states with high rate of out-of-school children in the country based on the report of the survey conducted by the Federal Ministry of Education in Collaboration with UNICEF.
He said the committee would go round the state and visit all the 17 emirate councils, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders as well as the public to enlighten them on the importance of enrollment of children in schools.
“As you know, a survey carried out in six local government areas of the state reported that over 44,000 school-aged children are out of school,” he said.
He called on all stakeholders to join hands with the board to ensure positive change in enrollment of children in schools across the state.
