On Wednesday an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Isabo sentenced a 35-year-old driver, Ibrahim Ojesola, to three months imprisonment for jumping bail.
The Prosecutor, ASP Banji Sangotokun, told the court that the accused was first arraigned on Feb. 17, 2011 in a case of dangerous driving and manslaughter.
He said the convict, however, stopped coming to court on subsequent adjournment dates.
“The case has been in court for four years and the accused stopped coming to court and ran away.
“He was caught on Monday by the police through a tip-off,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 133 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The convict pleaded guilty to the one count of intentional disrespect of the court by failing to attend proceeding.
Chief Magistrate Anthony Araba found him guilty and sentenced him to three months imprisonment with hard labour and without option of fine.
