Zainab Saheed-Agoro a house wife, on Wednesday urged a Mapo Customary Court, Ibadan to dissolve her seven-year-old marriage to Saheed Agoro for alleged neglect.
Zainab told the court that she had suffered neglect in the marriage, adding that Saheed lives in Lagos but dumped her in Ibadan.
She said that her husband had not visited Ibadan for two years and was not caring for her and their five-year-old son.
“Saheed is insensitive to my plight and that of our child. His relatives are aware and they kept urging me to be patient with him but it is now unbearable,” she said.
She, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage.
Saheed, who did not oppose the petition, urged the court to disregard Zainab’s claim in its entirely.
He admitted that he worked in Lagos, but said that he visited her and the child in Ibadan regularly, “carrying out my responsibilities as a father and husband.”
According to him, Zainab is merely suffering from lack of contentment and ungratefulness.
“To show her extravagance, Zainab has sold off some of the property that I left at home. I am not, however, bothered about her divorce suit, she can go if she wants,” he said.
The President of the court, Mr Henric Agbaje, ordered the couple to produce the evidence in support of their intention to divorce.
