Two vagrants, Ali Ali, 20, and Sani Isa, 20, on Friday appeared at a Grade 1 Area Court, Mararaba, Nasarawa State for stealing a woman’s Nokia phone valued at N14,000.
Ali and Isa, who both reside in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, are arraigned on two counts of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, PC Friday Adaji, told the court that Ms Ene Austine of Kuchikwu, Masaka, Nasarawa State, lodged a report against the accused at the ‘A’ Division Police Station on March 25.
He said on March 24, at about 8pm, the accused conspired with 10 others now at large and attacked her while she was visiting a friend in Molly Guest Inn, Mararaba.
The prosecutor said the accused stole the complainant’s Nokia X2 phone valued at N14,000 and N5,000 cash.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, the accused could spend eight years in prison with an option of fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Albert Maga, admitted them persons to bail for N100,000 and a surety each.
Maga ordered that the sureties must be of reputable character with landed property and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also ordered that the sureties must submit written undertakings that the accused would be of his best behaviours through out his trial.
He adjourned the case until April 4 for hearing.
