Maxwell Adeleye’s piece on Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s nominees March 24, 2014 ought to have been disregarded if it had not veered to the issue of delivery of projects in Ondo State in the last one year. It claimed that Mimiko has not inaugurated any project in the state since his second term inauguration!
Far from Adeyele’s claim, Mimiko has inaugurated the biggest and perhaps the busiest maternity centre in Nigeria, the Mother and Child Hospital, Ondo, to deliver zero cost qualitative health care service to children between age 0 and 5 and pregnant women, caesarean session inclusive!
Pupils and teachers at the over 15 mega primary schools inaugurated across the state between January 2013 and March 2014 will not forgive Adeyemi for this gobbledygook. Employees of the Ondo State Civil Service Commission and Ondo State workers must be fuming at this ill-conceived letter, because they are the beneficiaries of the multi-million naira Civil Service Commission office complex inaugurated by Mimiko on December 18, 2013, after 38 years without an office. Travellers and users of the 21.5km Ikare-Ugbe-Iboropa-Ise, Ifira bridge and other township roads in Akoko North-West LGA inauguarted by Mimiko on February 5, 2014, must be furious with the writer for saying no project has been inaugurated in the state since 2012.
Market traders at the 1000-shops Igbokoda International market, in Ilaje LGA; the Moferere regional market, Ondo town, the NEPA shopping complex in Akure etc, who, between 2013 and 2014, after the commissioning of these markets, joined many others in the 18 LGAs of Ondo state in plying their trade in serene and dignified environments, with loan facilities from the state government to boost their business, and several other benefitting rural communities of the various community projects too numerous to commission between 2012 and 2014, will surely bear testament to Adeleye’s laughable claim that Mimiko hasn’t inaurated any project since 2012.
